RETREAT BY FR PHAM HUNG TRUNG, SJ

Discernment: Understanding God's Language in the Ignatian Tradition


Throughout human history, human beings have constantly searched for means to comprehend the many ways God has constantly and directly communicated with human beings. In the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, Ignatius presents a systematic way to understand God's language, also known as Ignatian rules of discernment.

This retreat offers various spiritual exercises that help participants to engage and encounter the Divine, so that they are able to distinguish the different movement of the spirit, and make appropriate choices for one's life direction and vocation.

 

Dates & Times: Friday, 19 July (7.30pm) - Sunday, 21 July 2019 (5pm)

Contribution: $270 (non-AC), $330 (AC)

(1-to-1 Spiritual Direction as well as the celebration of the Eucharist in the Roman Rite are included in the programme.)

 

Celebrating the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Fr. Pham will give the evening talks and reflections (Triduum) at the Church of St. Ignatius (7:45pm to 9:45pm).

Day 1 (Tuesday, 23 July 2019): Creating Space for Encounter with the Divine.

Day 2 (Wednesday, 24 July 2019): Creating Space for Reconciliation with God, with others, and with oneself.

Day 3 (Thursday, 25 July 2019): Creating Space for Discipleship with Jesus Christ.

 


 

 

 


Fr Pham Hung Trung, SJ's Bio


Fr Pham was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States at the beginning of his high school years. He entered the Society of Jesus in the early 1990s, studied Ignatian Spirituality at Comilas Pontificia Universidad de Madrid, Spain and completed his doctorate in 2011.

He belongs to the Central and Southern Province of the Society of Jesus, U.S.A. Presently, he teaches Ignatian Spirituality at the Jesuit School of Theology, Santa Clara University - Berkeley campus, U.S.A.


Points to Note

  • Refunds as a result of withdrawals from programmes will only be made if requests are made 5 days before the said event.

  • Fr Pham is one of our MAGIS series speakers for 2019. This series sees invited foreign Jesuits give talks and retreats on a range of topics. Look out for the next MAGIS series speaker in October.
