Clinical Director for Counselling Services

Fr Charles Sim SJ Ph.D Kingsmead Centre Fr Charles Sim, S.J., Ph.D.
Fr. Charles Sim graduated from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London in 2002 with a Master of Science in Family Therapy. He did his clinical training at both the Department of Child and Family Psychiatry, King's College Hospital as well as the renowned Maudsley Psychiatric Hospital in London. He then went on to complete his Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy at the University of Minnesota (USA).

Presently, he is the head of programme for the Master of Counselling and Couple & Family Therapy at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, and the visiting consultant for family therapy at the Psychological Medicine Department, National University of Singapore Hospital (NUHS). He is a clinical member of the Association of Marital and Family Therapy (Singapore), and a fellow of the Asian Academy of Family Therapy (Hong Kong).


Our Counsellors

Clement Ong Kingsmead Centre Clement Ong
Clement is an associate counsellor at Kingsmead Centre, with a special interest in fathering, marital, and family issues. A father of two teenagers, he has been an associate of the Centre for Fathering since 2002. He has also been a volunteer counsellor at Family Life Society since 2007. He holds a Master of Social Science in Professional Counselling awarded by the Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.


Francis See
Francis has been a volunteer lay counsellor with Family Life Society since 2008. He holds a Diploma in Couple and Family Therapy, jointly issued by Family Life Society and the Centre for Family Ministries (CEFAM) of Ateneo de Manila University.  He went on to obtain a Bachelors Degree in counselling from SIM University. He is currently pursuing his Masters degree in counselling. His special interest is in pastoral and couple & family therapy.


Maria Plengsantip Kingsmead CentreMaria Plengsantip
Maria graduated from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University with a Master of Arts (Applied Psychology) specializing in counselling psychology. She started her career in a non-profit organization where she conducted research, developed programmes for children and families as well as facilitated group work. She was also involved in several high impact international projects to conduct psychosocial and trauma recovery training, and advised NGOs on starting counselling and family centres in their respective countries.

Maria aspires to empower individuals in harnessing their potential to the fullest and enhancing their overall well-being. This has led her to pursue research on how workplace physical activity can improve well-being and work engagement. Maria is also a Consultant Psychologist at iGROW, an award winning psychological consulting firm specializing in employee well-being.


Philip Khoo Kingsmead CentrePhilip Khoo
Philip is married and has 2 grandsons. He became interested in Counselling while helping prisoners after his retirement. This prompted him to seek further training. He acquired the Certificate and subsequently Diploma in Counselling jointly awarded by Family Life Society and Ateneo de Manila University in 2008 and 2010 respectively. In 2010 he was also awarded the Certificate in Premarital & Marital Counselling by the Center for Family Ministries, Ateneo de Manila University, and in 2012 he was certified as a Choice Theory, Reality Therapy and Lead Management Practitioner by the William Glasser Institute of USA.


(Dr) Seng Boon Kheng
Dr Seng Boon Kheng is the Head of the Social Work Programmes at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). She is a registered social worker (RSW) and has been practicing social work in the Healthcare sector for many years. Prior to her joining SUSS (formerly UniSIM), she was the Head of the Social Work Department at the Institute of Mental Health.

She has served on several and is currently serving on some of the Boards of Professional Bodies, National Councils and Voluntary Welfare Organizations in the National Council of Social Service and the Ministry of Social and Family Development. She is a qualified therapist in Clinical Hypnosis, Neuro- Linguistic Programming and Reality Therapy. She has published research papers in various areas including mental health, caregiving and dementia.


Sharon Chang Kingsmead CentreSharon Chang
Sharon graduated with a Master of Social Work (Mental Health) at the University of Melbourne. She has been providing individual, couple, group and family counselling services since 2000. Sharon has been a counsellor with SAF Counselling Centre, Senior Executive (Mental Health Education Department) at Health Promotion Board, and in-house counsellor for Canossaville Children’s Home. Sharon is currently a counsellor at Singapore Exchange, responsible for providing time-limited individual counselling, in the areas of emotional well-being, improving self-esteem, work-life balance, etc.


Vivien Woon Kingsmead CentreVivien Woon
Vivien graduated with a Masters of Social Science in Professional Counselling from Swinburne University of Technology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Biblical Studies from the Regional Biblical Commission of the Bishop’s Conference of Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei.

For several years, she has been providing counselling to individuals of different ages, including children and adolescents in primary schools and junior colleges. With her training focused on family therapy, she also provides counselling and psychotherapy to single adults, couples and families.

Vivien has been married for over 4 decades while raising five children and now enjoys interacting with her three grandsons.

Rose Boon Kingsmead CentreMrs Rose Boon
Rose has been working and volunteering with Family Life Society (Pregnancy Crisis Service) since 1989. In 2010 she brought Rachel's Vineyard Retreat to Singapore. She is part of the Management Committee of Counseling and Care Centre for over 10 years and oversees the Counselling Centre at Kingsmead Centre.
